Xabi Alonso and Bayer Leverkusen keeping tabs on Sergio Arribas

Sergio Arribas, the promising 22-year-old attacking midfielder currently plying his trade at Almería, has attracted significant attention from Xabi Alonso, the former Real Madrid player who has successfully steered Bayer Leverkusen to the top of the Bundesliga, accoring to a report from Mundo Deportivo. Alonso’s keen interest in Arribas is a testament to the young player’s talent and potential impact in top-tier European football.

While at Almería, Arribas has been a standout performer, contributing five goals and two assists in 20 appearances across the league and cup competitions. The Andalusian club has struggled all season, currently sitting dead last in the La Liga table with a mere five points. The club could be forced to sell some of their stars in the winter or summer window pending near certain relegation.

Arribas’s moved to Almería from Real Madrid last summer, involving a fixed fee of six million euros, plus potential additional payments. Notably, Real Madrid astutely retained a 50% share in Arribas’s future sale rights, highlighting their belief in his future value.

Despite the mounting interest from Leverkusen, Almería is reportedly not keen on parting with their starlet for a sum less than 10 million euros. This valuation reflects both the player’s current prowess and potential for further growth. The coming transfer window could see significant developments, potentially shaping the future trajectory of Arribas’s career. The scenario is further complicated by the ongoing rivalry in the Bundesliga, where Leverkusen is engaged in a fierce battle with Bayern Munich for the title, a contest that might influence their pursuit of new talents like Arribas. If Florian Wirtz were to leave in the summer, Arribas’ — a player Xabi knows from his days coaching Real Madrid’s youth academy — may be the direct replacement.
