Rodrygo’s Invincibles will have to try again next season. Real Madrid haven’t played like an invincible side. They’ve played like a vulnerable side whose game plan often looks so heavily reliant on Courtois frustrating the opposition with superhuman displays.

Against Lille, we saw a culmination of all the worst elements of Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

The Lille manager used the Atletico game to prepare. The game against Atletico was 2 dropped points.

He eyes must have lit up when he saw us hoofing it up to Vini and Endrick.

Carlo has talked about verticality before. How do you play quickly if you don’t know what your next move is? Eventually you’ll play slower because you can’t see the game and you’ve got no structure helping you progress the ball or even helping you with that much vaunted verticality.

I think Carlo won’t come out and say there’s a structural issue. But it’s been obvious for a long time now even when we had Kroos papering over the cracks last season.

Endrick’s statement is ironic because nobody’s watching Real Madrid this season and thinking, it must be impossible to get a start among those. On paper perhaps, but if you’ve been watching the games you’d be thinking, Endrick can start.

More Problems
