Shine A Light: 28 December 2023

The Daily Merengue is a place where you can feel free to discuss all things football. Do not be alarmed by the overt RMCF bias. It’s in the name!

Shoutout to the mods who do a fantastic job, Valyrian Steel, Felipejack, Juninho, NeRObutBlanco and yours truly, Kung_Fu_Zizou

Balling on a Budget

Brahim Diaz has really impressed every single time he has been given an opportunity to play this season. The game Ancelotti has designed suits the diminutive forward by allowing him the freedom to show his ability in attack while being part of a stable defensive structure on the other side of the ball. I, for one, have been pleasantly surprised by how effective he has been and long may it continue.

Brahim’s form has not gone unnoticed by La Furia Roja coach De La Fuente and it seems he is waiting for a call from Spain before choosing which country to represent. With the African Nations Cup around the corner, the decision will have to be made sooner rather than later.

You Don’t know Ball or Bell

Michael Owen goes on to assert that Jude would still not be in the league of non-Ballon d’Or winning midfielders like Gerrard and Lampard. I mean, winning major silverware and a Ballon d’Or, for a midfielder is solidified GOAT player status. There’s no two ways about it.

Waiting In Vain

If the club is happy with Carlo’s work then what does it matter about when the Supercopa is played? Is the thinking that he needs to win another trophy to get the renewal? And what if he doesn’t, you seal his fate before knowing whether or not he will win the Liga or UCL? Makes no sense whatsoever. Nonetheless.. Someone will be waiting in vain. Please don’t let it be me.
