Rodrygo will replace Toni Kroos as Real Madrid’s new set piece taker — report

Rodrygo is set to replace Toni Kroos at set pieces for Real Madrid, according to a report from Guillermo Rai of The Athletic.

After some delay in training for the Brazilian due to muscle discomfort, Rodrygo was asked to hit set-piece training as soon as he returned to the camp fully recovered. He was asked to “step up” to take set pieces in training sessions whenever there was a foul in play.

Toni Kroos had been taking Real Madrid’s corners and long free kicks for 10 years and recently even started taking direct free kicks. With him gone, someone had to step up, and it seems Rodrygo now is the clear option.

Arda Guler has also proven he can take set pieces really well, and Luka Modric is historically known for being really good at corners, so Real Madrid do have options for when Rodrygo is not on the pitch.
