Recap & Highlights: Real Madrid Femenino 1-0 Valencia; Liga F

Real Madrid won 1-0 over Valencia on matchday 5 of Liga F. Below are my thoughts and views on the match.

Mylene Chavas started on goal. The new CB duo debuted today of Méndez-Rocío who were accompanied by Olga and Oihane on fullbacks. Leupolz and Toletti as a pivot duo accompanied Caroline Weir in the midfield. Bruun led the attack as Athenea and Feller supported her from the wings. Another heavy rotation, this time including Chavas on goal who played her first match of the season.

The match started both smoothly and rocky at the same time. It was a rough start because of the forced substitution in the first 15 minutes of the match. Browne fouled Toletti in 7’ for which she received a yellow. The French midfielder had to be attended by the medical staff after which she could return to the pitch for a couple more minutes. She was finally subbed off at 14’ for Teresa.

On the other side, it was a smooth start because the game started and continued on Valencia’s half of the pitch. In the first 17 minutes, Olga sent 3 crosses which would either reach Bruun in the box or Bruun would miss the ball by an inch.

All notable attacks were through the left side, starring Olga and Athenea, while Feller and Bruun would be awaiting their crosse inside the box.

  • 26’ GOAL (1-0) by Olga Carmona: Athenea’s attempted cross from the left side got blocked but before Valencia could clear it, Athenea ran in to pass it back to Olga at the entrance of the box. Olga took a few steps forward and shot it in, the ball deflecting off the goalkeeper as well. It was going on target from the start, and it was given to Olga.

Toril made a double halftime substitution: Shei for Olga and Eva Navarro for Feller. Shei operated on the right behind Eva on the RW. Oihane moved to the left side.

There was a noteworthy moment in 55’. A combination of backheel passes by Bruun and Weir for Navarro to take it over and shoot. Bruun then got the rebound of Canales’s save which was saved as well.

After the 62’ substitution of Redondo and Linda for Bruun and Leupolz, Las Blancas had 5 players up front and Real Madrid’s game became more offensive than when the team would be a goal down. With this offensive lineup, Valencia’s penalty area was hardly ever out of danger, except for a few attempted counterattacks.

As time passed by, the game became more physical. Athenea was getting fouled the most, even though most of those fouls weren’t whistled. Both the players and the audience protested for yellow cards for Valencia, but the referee never showed it. The only yellow the guests received was early in the game for that infamous foul on Toletti.

Olga was the official player of the match, but another noteworthy performance was the one of Teresa who had to be subbed in for Toletti in the 14th minute of the encounter.

Another 3 points, another win to keep the perfect streak alive. On top of it all, 4th cleansheet of the season, and the first one for Chavas.
