Lunin still undecided about Real Madrid contract extension

Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin remains undecided about signing a contract extension with the club, sources told Managing Madrid. His current deal expires in the summer of 2025. While Lunin was previously keen on staying, Thibaut Courtois’ return from injury has made him reconsider, acknowledging the difficulty of securing meaningful playing time over the next few seasons.

Courtois, at 32, is expected to remain the starter for at least three to four more years, leaving Lunin with limited opportunities. Lunin recognizes that this summer may be his best chance to secure a solid role at another club, given his strong performances during the 2023-24 season.

Should Lunin leave, Real Madrid might keep Kepa Arrizabalaga as a backup, despite an offer for the Spanish player to move to Saudi Arabia, according to a MARCA report. The club faces a crucial decision as it seeks to balance its goalkeeping options for the future while making sure that Courtois is still their starter.
