International Webinar on Smart Courts

About the Webinar

The Indian judiciary stands at a transformative juncture, wherein the integration of digital technologies into judicial processes has assumed central importance in reform discourse. Against this backdrop, the emergence of the concept of “Smart Courts” represents a paradigmatic shift toward technologically augmented justice systems, designed to enhance efficiency, transparency, and accessibility in the dispensation of justice.

This transition, propelled by the imperatives of a rapidly digitizing society, necessitates a critical re-examination of traditional adjudicatory mechanisms through the lens of innovation, inter-disciplinarity, and sustainability. The International Webinar on Smart Courts: Pioneering Digital Pathways to Justice in India seeks to serve as a vital academic and professional forum to deliberate on these emerging dimensions.

The webinar aspires to bring together a diverse and distinguished cohort of stakeholders—comprising legal scholars, practitioners, technologists, and policymakers—to engage in informed dialogue on the operational, doctrinal, and normative challenges posed by the digital turn in judicial administration. By interrogating developments such as AI-assisted judicial reasoning, e-filing, online scheduling and digital case management, virtual courtrooms, and the evidentiary admissibility of electronic records, the event aims to elucidate the multilayered implications of smart court ecosystems.

Central to these deliberations will be concerns surrounding data privacy, cybersecurity, and regulatory architectures, as well as issues of digital literacy and access to justice for marginalized populations. In situating these developments within both national and comparative legal frameworks, the webinar endeavors to contribute substantively to the evolving scholarship on legal informatics, judicial reform, and the future of dispute resolution.

This initiative invites participation from law students, researchers, members of the Bar, faculty from legal academia, and other stakeholders interested in the jurisprudential and practical evolution of judicial systems in the digital age. Through this interdisciplinary engagement, the webinar seeks to foster informed policy formulation and collaborative pathways toward a more inclusive, responsive, and future-ready judiciary.
