The Daily Merengue is a place where you can feel free to d all things football. Do not be alarmed by the overt RMCF bias. It’s in the name!
Shoutout to the mods who do a fantastic job, Kung_Fu_Zizou, Felipejack, Juninho, NeRObutBlanco and yours truly, Valyrian Steel.
A brief history of how the daily thread came about to be.
Circa September 2019, the old mods Mrs Madridista, Prakash and Co had stopped being active and there was scant moderation on the blog. Life had caught up with them I guess. The only active threads were the matchday threads and trolls were abound. Insults were being hurled left right and center and old timers gradually started staying away. The blog writers had enough on their plate and couldn’t devote time or resources to this effort. Fast forward to January 2020 and MM had become a wasteland. We had barely double digit comments on most threads and matchday threads got to 100 if we were lucky.
Kiyan and I had been going back and forth on this issue and my thought process was that we needed active moderation and a daily thread to get the old users back and encourage new ones to comment freely. Why a daily thread? Because users preferred one place where Madridistas could come and hang and talk all things Madrid and football and perhaps life. Multiple article threads weren’t going to cut it. I also saw how other blogs like Chelsea, Spurs, Barca etc were able to keep their fan bases engaged with their daily threads. Plans were set into motion.
Make MM Great Again.
Ofcourse I couldn’t do all this alone. Enter MM legend Oscnar. I got in touch with him as one of the other old timers back then and he readily agreed with my thought process. Initially we just moderated comments and finally some order was restored. Comments were up again and we needed more help. Enter another old timer and MM legend, Felipe came on board. Still no daily thread though. The blog writers initially wanted to do it themselves but quickly realized they don’t have the bandwidth after a few attempts. Felipe reached out to Kiyan again and we were finally granted permission. Oscnar created the first daily thread. and this is what it looked like. Humble beginnings.

Things started looking up. We had more MM legends YoSnail, Nero and Ezek join us as the daily thread got more popular. However life caught up with Oscnar and eventually with YoSnail and Ezek as well but we’ve been fortunate to have had the ultra talented duo Juninho and KFZ take their place and make MM even greater. So there you go. A bit of MM history. I think it’s safe to say we’re one of the best football blogs around now. Our effort stems from just one thing. Love for this club. Hala Madrid.
