The Champions
And We’re Back. Today, Real Madrid begins the defense of their CL title against Stuggart. I’m hoping for an improved performance under the CL lights especially if Jude Bellingham or Tchouameni are healthy enough to feature. What are you expectations for today?
I’m still a bit miffed by the current CL format (and I believe it’s an absolutely unnecessary change), but at this point I just want to see good football and a consistent performance. Of course, I’m hoping for a win. But as of Sept 17., all I ask right now is to see signs of progression and improvement. I believe Jeffrey posted this at some point in yesterday’s thread “We Gon’ Be Alright.” I firmly believe that (at least for now).
The Renewal
Ferland Mendy. According to Marca, Ferland Mendy has finally renewed his contract with Real Madrid CF until 2027. Although many on MM have asked for more from Mendy, he has been overall a defensive stalwart when needed. He was particularly integral in moments in the previous season as well as early on in his Real Madrid career.
Personally, I’m happy to see Mendy renewed but am still hoping for either a) another LB signing (i.e. Davies), or b) a more prevalent usage of Fran Garcia. I think we can all agree that Mendy is legitimately a black hole on the left side when it comes to any attacking progression, key chance creation, or simple ball retention. Except for random spells, I am almost willing to bet that a fair share of his passes are either backwards to Rudi / Militao / Tbo. This is a huge dilemma when it comes to our press resistance as well as later facing low blocks. If Mendy can be more tactically used (particularly games against big clubs where we may adopt a more pragmatic approach), it could be beneficial in extending his career as well as providing us better attacking options.

The Return
The Boy From Birmingham. We may be approaching a new frontier. According to reports, Jude Bellingham (and Tchouameni) should be returning to the forefront of Real Madrid lineups. Finally, it feels like the squad is healing. With recent injuries especially to our midfield, Jude’s ridiculous work rate and progressive carries should hopefully assist in correcting some of our buildup issues.
