Can Arda play in a double pivot?
This is a discussion we had in the comment section yesterday. Curiously, Carlo was asked about this in the press-conference.
Arda Guler can’t play in a double-pivot, but he can play as an interior. We have to train him, because we never did. He is a resistant player, he has physical qualities. But he can’t play in a double pivot, because he do not have the characteristics, he do not defend like pivot.
The next question was what Carlo asked from a midfield interior.
In a 4-3-3, interior is not much used in build-up. The interior position with the ball in opponent-half is to play between the lines, to be well positioned to receive the ball and to try to pass to the forwards. Defensively, it’s a different job from that of a winger, as he must work more inside and work more defensively. In a 4-3-3, the work made by an interior is more extreme than the work done by a winger.
