sme: There may be a bubble in SME or option segment; be very careful: Ramesh Damani

Ramesh Damani, Member, BSE, says “the kind of volumes that trade places in the option is beyond my understanding. The kind of froth we see sometimes in the SME market is beyond that. But broadly a well managed company whether it is a smallcap or largecap is still a good investment opportunity and I would remain invested in them. I would be very careful of the bubble territories and say the SMEs or in the option market.

The hallmark this year has been the smaller you have gone, the better the gains have been, from SME to smallcaps and midcaps and largecaps. Do you think you need to be careful and watchful in the SME and the smallcap space now?
Well, the way I look at it is that what was unpopular, what was unloved, what was unacknowledged has done well, which makes classic sense for a new bull market. You want new leadership. And so it has to come from extreme unpopularity. We have always known that. And that always happens. Is there a bubble sort of happening in the SME segment or in the option segment, probably. I would be very careful in that segment.
