Bayer Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro spoke about his preference in the Champions League quarterfinal clash between Arsenal and Real Madrid.
Real Madrid have been linked with a move for Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso for a while now, and the rumors have quadrupled ever since Arsenal beat Real Madrid last week.
When asked about this, Carro talked about wanting Real Madrid to win instead, so that Carlo Ancelotti gets to stay at the club.
He said: “I’ll be honest, I’d have been happier if Real Madrid had heavily defeated Arsenal and the coaching position there would be secure.”
Carro would have liked to obviously avoid these rumors as much as possible, but Real Madrid’s most recent result did not let that happen.
“It’s normal in football that if a club like Real Madrid lose 3-0 in the quarter-final against Arsenal, that the rumors go crazy,” he said. “That’s normal & understandable and that’s why I would’ve liked to avoid these rumors with a Madrid win.”
Real Madrid do have a chance to help Carro out — if they want to — as they play Arsenal in the second leg of the tie on Wednesday.
