We Don’t Need Another Hero: 27 March 2025

There’s not long to go in the season. Real Madrid have scarcely looked like a team but this has been the norm. You look at the lineup and you have hope that there’s a hero in there. All the players are potential heroes. Forgetting playing a great game. It’s about getting over the line. Fighting to the death and clawing for every inch until the final whistle. This is what to expect. World class players being put in very difficult circumstances, forced to figure it out and win. Forget your favourite position.. Forget what you enjoy doing out there, your natural inclination or desires.. You must win!

Road to the Treble

Real Madrid need to find consistency in terms of results especially against the better sides.

The current circumstance puts us on a collision course with the Blaugrana. We’ve yet to figure out how to handle Hansi Flick’s charges this season.

What’s more in La Liga teams will feel they can get something against us.

La Real will come to the Bernabeu with all to play for and nothing to lose in the Copa del Rey Semis.

We will face a tricky QF tie against Arsenal.

We have the quality to overcome these challenges but we don’t really know from watching the team this season how we’re gonna get through it.

Fans may claim they have no interest in a treble but the challenge is upon us. There’s no more room for prioritising competitions. It’s all up for grabs going into April.

The Gladiators So Far

Fede

Fede Valverde has held the team together this season in his own way. We still have a number 8. He may not be the passmaster or metronome but he’s been keeping the team ticking and fighting. A player who is often overlooked for the more fancy lights in the team Fede’s importance is difficult to overstate. He will have to be at his best ove the final 2 months of the season. We have no alternative.

Kylian

The Turtle had a slow start but has since picked up the pace as the leader of the attack. On the left, right or the centre, the Frenchman is a constant danger. Left foot or right foot, he finds his way to goal.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

Is Hero-Ball the Real Madrid way? Real Madrid fans never forget a hero. The Bernabeu is a strange place. The fans don’t forget a hero. The shirt bears the weight of expectation. If you’re an average player, you’ll be exposed. If you’re not giving your all the fans will let you know. The manager does what he does but the fans see a potential hero in all the players who take to the pitch. You could bring in a player from Castilla, if he makes a good impression he’s expected to save the day when the team needs him, from a goal line clearance to rolling the ball in from 2 yards the effort makes the hero. No matter who the next manager is, the hero will be someone in the white shirt. This is not merely because players make the difference but because you’re expected to make history. To win and to play with class and bravery like the ones who came before.
