When the 2023 – 2024 season concluded with Real Madrid beating Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League Final, it was quite clear that Vinicius Jr and Jude Bellingham were the two front runners to win the Ballon D’or. Other Real Madrid players, like Toni Kroos, Dani Carvajal, and Fede Valverde, were also considered among the nominees.
But then, the international tournaments happened, and the only Real Madrid players to have won a trophy this summer were Dani Carvajal, Nacho Fernandez, and Joselu. Of course, many non-Real Madrid fans had a field day with this, as narratives started to shift.
