David Alaba to return to Austria with concerns over recovery

Following the unfortunate news of Thibaut Courtois, who had suffered a heart-breaking set back in training at Valdebebas this morning, now reports have surfaced that there is concern around David Alaba’s recovery. In a report from COPE radio, Real Madrid have given David Alaba permission to return back to Austria to re-assess his recovery options as his injury has progressed slower than anticipated.

The center back was injured just before the Christmas holiday in a match against Villarreal at the Santiago Bernabeu. It has been nearly three months’ since the surgey with both the player and medical staff concerned with the pace of recovery.

It’s a tough pill to swallow for the club just hours after the Courtois news. ACL injuries are amongst the most difficult to return from and both Alaba and Courtois are facing challenges. Neither player is expected to return this season with hopes set on each finding their previous level in the 2024-2025 season.
