vedanta: Vedanta Q1 Update: Alumina production jumps 36% YoY to 539 kt, mined metal up 2%

Metal major Vedanta reported a 36% year-on-year jump in alumina production at Lanjigarh refinery at 539 kt driven by new capacity, the company said today in a filing to the exchanges. In Q1FY24, the company had produced 395 kt. It was up by 11% on the quarter-on-quarter basis versus 484 kt in the March quarter.

The cast metal aluminum production at its smelters was reported at 596 kt, up 3% YoY on account of better operational performance. The metal production was flat on the QoQ basis.

Its mined metal production in the first quarter stood at 263 kt, up 2% YoY with improved mined metal grades. In line with mine preparation activities being carried out every year in first quarter, it was lower by 12% QoQ, the company filing said.

Refined metal production stood at 262 kt, up 1% YoY and down 4% QoQ due to plant availability & pyro operations on lead mode for later part of 1QFY25. Refined zinc production was reported at 211 kt, up 1% YoY and down 4% QoQ.

Refined lead production was at 51 kt in Q1, up 2% YoY and down 3% QoQ meanwhile, saleable silver production was at 167 tonnes, down 7% YoY and 12% QoQ. In zinc’s international business, the mined metal production was down 45% to 38 kt in Q1FY25 versus 68 kt in Q1FY24.
