The driving tip that could warm your car much quicker on colder days

With the cold weather looking set to stay, it can seem difficult to drag yourself out of the house and into your car for the morning commute.

Especially as the mercury has dropped below zero at times this week, leaving drivers shivering as they warm up their cars. Thankfully, experts have shared some tip hacks for heating your car.

Some motorists favour starting their cars early, meaning they have some time before they have to get in, reports the Daily Star. But it seems as though there could be a quicker way.

The Trusted Automative Professionals (TAP) previously shared the driving tip. In a blog post, experts revealed you should turn your car to cold and switch off the fan.

They wrote: “It may seem backward but that’s how a car’s heating/cooling system works. Then, after driving for a bit, turn it to hot and turn on the fan.

“It’ll get hotter faster this way, than if you were to get in and turn it to hot with fans on full.”

When you think about it, the tip does in fact make sense. By cranking up the heating and fan at the same time, you’d only be blowing cold air around your vehicle.

Motorists who have Climate Control don’t need to follow this advice, as their cars will automatically regulate the temperature. This technology tends to be reserved for more luxury vehicles, though.

Cold weather – including snow in parts – has swept across Britain this week. And Exacta Weather forecaster James Madden expects the cold and snow to continue. He pinpointed Saturday (January 13) as when we might see “the first of the widespread snow showers”.
