Real Madrid wrap up 2023 with strong final training session

Real Madrid completed their final training session of the year 2023 on Sunday, ahead of their La Liga match against Mallorca on January 3, 2024.

Carlo Ancelotti had some good news as Eduardo Camavinga completed part of the session with the group, after missing the previous day’s open doors training. Camavinga has been sidelined since November with a right knee injury, but his recovery is going even better than expected. The 21-year-old midfielder is expected to be back for the Spanish Super Cup semi-final, where he will face his national team compatriot Antoine Griezmann in what promises to be an intense derby.

Meanwhile, Ferland Mendy continued to train on his own outdoors, away from the rest of the squad. It’s unclear what Mendy’s fitness levels will be by the next game against Mallorca, but Real Madrid do have insurance at that position as Fran Garcia has picked up the pace and looked in fine form filling in at left-back during Mendy’s absence.

Still, Real Madrid will hope to have Mendy and everyone else — including Arda Güler who is now in the final stages of his recovery — as soon as possible, as they face a busy and crucial two-month stretch, where they will play 11 games in three different competitions.
