Real Madrid, Ancelotti closing in on contract extension -sources

Real Madrid are set to extend Carlo Ancelotti’s contract, which is set to expire next summer. Although rumors suggested that Ancelotti was going to leave the club to become the coach of the Brazilian national team, Real Madrid have been more than pleased with Ancelotti’s job so far this season and the extension is all but signed at this point, club sources told Managing Madrid.

Ancelotti has led Real Madrid in what’s been a very tough season for Los Blancos in terms of injuries. The Italian coach has made sure that the team survived that injury crisis without key starters like Militao, Courtois, Camavinga, Tchouameni and Vinicius all missing extended time.

This extension would mean that Real Madrid would be giving up on the possibility of appointing Xabi Alonso as their coach next summer. Alonso has been the most impressive coach in European football so far this season and will likely leave Bayer Leverkusen if an offer from an elite club comes his way.

Still, Ancelotti could still leave Real Madrid after signing that extension if the club suffers any kind of catastrophic meltdown during the second half of the season, even though that doesn’t seem likely.
