OFFICIAL: Nacho Fernandez leaves Real Madrid

Real Madrid have confirmed the departure of defender and captain Nacho Fernandez, who is leaving the club to play in Qatar after 12 seasons with the first team and many more in the academy.

Real Madrid C. F. announces that our captain Nacho has decided to end his career as a Real Madrid player. Real Madrid wants to express its gratitude and affection to Nacho, one of the great legends of our club.

Nacho joined Real Madrid in 2001, at just 10 years old, and has played in all categories of our academy until becoming a first-team player in 2012. Since then, he has defended our shirt for 12 seasons in one of the most successful periods in Real Madrid’s history. During this time, he has played 364 matches and won 26 titles: 6 Champions Leagues, 5 Club World Cups, 4 UEFA Super Cups, 4 La Liga titles, 2 Copa del Rey titles, and 5 Spanish Super Cups.

Additionally, with the Spanish national team, he won the U-21 European Championship and the Nations League, and is currently competing in the 2024 Euro Cup in Germany. Nacho ends his career at Real Madrid as the captain who lifted the Fifteenth at Wembley, as one of the five players who have won 6 Champions Leagues in the history of football, and with the most titles in the history of our club.

All Real Madrid fans feel immense pride for one of the most legendary academy products in our history. Real Madrid’s president, Florentino Pérez, states that “Since he arrived at our academy as a child, Nacho has always been an example of overcoming obstacles for everyone and takes with him the affection, recognition, and admiration of all Madridismo. Real Madrid is and will always be his home.”
